“Stop Fat Start Fit”: Transform “Obese” into “Fit”
During this long summer break, wouldn’t it be better to switch from lying “sedent” or spending more than 2 hours in front of a screen to moving around, building a fit body, and achieving healthy growth and height?
The Department of Health has compiled three easy-to-do principles for daily practice: “Move Enough, Sit Less, and Sleep Enough,” as a guide for health enthusiasts to help adjust the behavior of their children and grandchildren. Build a strong, tall, well-proportioned body and ensure healthy growth:
Move enough. Encourage children to engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity such as running, jumping, dancing, and playing sports for 60 minutes every day (this can be accumulated). This helps build strong muscles and bones.
Sit less. Move your body every 1-2 hours and reduce screen time (mobile phones, computers, television) to less than 2 hours per day.
Get enough sleep. Go to bed before 9 PM (children aged 6-12 years should sleep 9 hours or more, teenagers aged 13-18 years should sleep 8 hours or more) to allow for optimal growth hormone release.
Regular physical activity strengthens muscles, bones, and the heart, controls weight, reduces the risk of obesity, and also improves concentration, learning, and mental health.
This school break, join “Stop Fat Start Fit” to build a foundation for good health and transform Thai children from “obese” to “well-proportioned.” Because every step of movement is a crucial step towards a healthy future for Thai children.
With love and care. We want Thai people to be health-literate using the "3 Knows to Survive" principle, enabling them to understand their own health status at every age, every day. From the Department of Health.
