Services and Service Scope

The Medical Technology Department at Tha Fak Tha Hospital offers services in six branches:

1. Clinical Chemistry: Provides analytical testing of various chemicals in the body, including blood, cerebrospinal fluid, urine, and fluids from different parts of the human body. The service covers both quantitative and qualitative analyses, enabling the detection of abnormalities in organ function and assessing disease risk.
2. Hematology: Offers analysis and diagnosis of blood cell abnormalities, such as cancerous blood cell examinations and the diagnosis of conditions like anemia and blood clotting disorders. This branch also examines the physical characteristics and chemical components of blood.
3. Histopathology: Provides physical and chemical examinations using microscopes and specific tools to identify abnormalities in blood, urine, stool, and mucus, such as identifying the causes of urinary tract diseases, pregnancy tests, finding eggs and parasites, and analyzing amniotic fluid.
4. Immunology and Serology: Offers analysis to test the body is immunity to various diseases using antigen-antibody reactions.
5. Clinical Microbiology: Conducts examinations to identify bacteria, fungi, and viruses using staining techniques and microscopic analysis.
6. Blood Bank: Responsible for blood collection, blood component separation, blood compatibility testing, and blood type determination for various blood group systems.

Limitation

1. Due to limitations in the laboratory of Tha Fak Tha Hospital, not all items can be analyzed in-house because of constraints related to equipment and analysis reagents. Therefore, items are sent for analysis to external laboratories, including the testing for thyroid diseases, tuberculosis, and more.
2. The main essential instruments used for laboratory analysis do not have backup equipment. The laboratory has prepared a contingency plan in case the main equipment malfunctions or becomes inoperative. In emergency situations, they are ready to send samples for analysis to neighboring hospitals or referral laboratories.

Service Scope

1. Provides laboratory testing and analysis services in 6 specialized areas, including Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Hematology, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Virology, and Blood Banking.
2. Refers samples that cannot be analyzed in-house to external laboratories.
3. Ensures the procurement of high-quality blood with sufficient quantity and safety for service recipients.
4. Provides academic information and service utilization procedures for medical laboratory services to relevant departments and organizations.
5. Serves as a focal point for the development of quality and standards in medical laboratory services within the healthcare network of Fak Tha District.
