📌 4 Risk Factors for Thai Children to Become "Overweight" ⚠️
📊 The current situation regarding healthy height and weight for Thai children is 55% (still below the criteria set by the Department of Health, which is 61% or greater) (Nutrition Division, (2025). Report on the Analysis of Child Nutrition Indicators (5 months after fiscal year 2025)). This puts Thai children at risk of being overweight. “Overweight and Obesity” 📉
Statistics by Age Group 📑
🔴 Toddlers (0-5 years): Found at 9.13% (exceeding the set target of 8%) 🧸
🔴 School-aged Children (6-14 years): Soared to 13.2%, with some high-risk areas reaching 16.6%! 🎒
🔴 Teenagers (15-18 years): Remains at a high level of 13.1% 📱
4 Causes of Obesity in Thai Children 🍩
1. 🍭 Sweet Tooth and Snacking: Consuming sugary drinks, snacks, and high-fat foods beyond the body's needs is the number one cause of obesity. 🥤
2. 🛋️ Sedentary Lifestyle: School-aged children and teenagers spend up to 13-14 hours a day sitting or lying down (excluding sleep). It hinders the metabolism's efficiency. 💤
3. 🎮 More screen time than physical activity: Spending more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen increases the risk of snacking while watching screens and results in decreased physical activity. 📺
4. 🌙 Staying up late and not getting enough sleep: Affects hormones that control hunger and satiety, making children more likely to eat high-energy foods. 🍔
✅ If we change and avoid these 4 behaviors, replacing them with "Eat right, play enough, sleep well," Thai students and teenagers will be less likely to suffer from obesity, one of the causes of other NCDs in the future. Let's grow up "tall, healthy, and well-proportioned" together! ✨👫
